I recently began to learn more about SEO and figured a good way to begin would be to run a site speed test on my blog. I used Pingdom to test this site and got a ton of actionable results.
The first obvious (but not unexpected) result is that the site loads really slow and was only faster than 20% of tested sites.
Upon investigation, several large pictures from a recent post were slowing the site down dramatically.
After compressing these pictures and modifying the on-page size my site loads over three seconds faster and is now faster than 40% of tested sites. Not great, but much closer to the mean than 20%.
I’d recommend every site owner perform a site speed test if for no other reason than to see how your site actually performs out in the real-world.
